For German-speaking & relocating families

A little piece of Heimat in Irvine.

Moving across the world with little ones is a lot. If German is your family's language — at home, or just in your heart — SparkLab is a place where your child can keep it, grow it, and meet others who share it.

Why it matters

Mother tongue fades faster than parents expect

In an English-speaking environment, a young child's German can slip away within a year or two — first the speaking, then the understanding. The grandparents back home notice it on video calls. A community where German is normal, alive, and fun is the most natural way to hold onto it, without it ever feeling like a chore.

The gift: your child stays able to talk with Oma and Opa, keeps a door open to family and home, and grows up genuinely bilingual.

Part of something with roots

Carrying on Ute's Kinderschule

The German-family community here did not start yesterday. It grew over years around Ute's Kinderschule — a gathering place for German-speaking families in the area, and the home of the Laternenfest tradition. Our founder, Heike, taught there. When Ute retired and the Kinderschule closed, she and Heike joined hands to carry the tradition forward — Ute is helping build SparkLab and has even passed on her classroom equipment. So today's families inherit an established, loving circle rather than starting from scratch.
